I got a little something new here for yinz! I'm teaming up with my friends at AURIFIL THREAD to bring you some of their thread spools in wood!

I can't believe that I get to work with giants in the industry like Aurifil. It was so fun to meet their marketing team for the first time back during Quiltcon (I think it was '23?) in Atlanta. We went to see them at their booth and they had this giant quilt with spools with all kinds of their thread colors sewn into them to make it look like the thread was still wrapped around them. I took one look at that quilt and I thought, "Man it would be cool to recreate that in wood. Too bad there isn't a wood out there that is as vibrant orange as their trademark spool color." Little did your ol' pal Chris know that there are not just one, but TWO amazing stand-ins for that orange called Pernambuco and Niove! As soon as I saw those, I knew it was game time.

I will be accepting preorders for these clappers until Sunday, November 1st at 11:59 PM!

Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery after the preorder window closes.

Each clapper is approximately 14x3" and the woods used in each piece are as follows from the top down:

  1. Poplar, Argentine Osage Orange, Niove, Padauk, Pernambuco spools on Curly Maple
  2. Canarywood, Black Palm, Bocote, Zebrawood with Niove spools on Curly Maple

Each tool is hand crafted, hand sanded up to a fine finish, and coated with a blend of beeswax and orange oil to bring out the NATURAL beauty of the wood.
